Keep a Story before the 24 hours are up

TikTok Stories work like Stories on other apps: they sit at the top of a profile for 24 hours and then disappear. That's fine for quick updates, but sometimes a Story has something you want to keep, like a discount code from a shop you follow, an announcement, a short tutorial, or a moment from a friend's trip.

DropTik can save a public Story the same way it saves a normal TikTok. You copy the Story's link, paste it here and download it as a video, or as an image if the Story is a photo. The file comes without the TikTok watermark, and you don't need to log in, so nothing in your account changes.

The timing matters, though. Once a Story expires or the creator deletes it, the link stops working and there's nothing left to download. If you see a Story you want, save it straight away. For regular posts, use the TikTok video downloader; it's the same process.

How to download a TikTok Story

Do it while the Story is still live. It only takes a moment:
1

Copy the Story link

Open the Story in the TikTok app, tap Share (or the three dots), then Copy link. Make sure you copy it from the Story itself while it's playing.
2

Paste it into DropTik

Tap Paste in the box above, then tap Download. DropTik checks the Story and shows what it contains.
3

Save the video or photo

Tap Download next to the file. Video Stories save as MP4 and photo Stories save as images.

Saving Stories with DropTik

  • Video and photo Stories: Both kinds work: video Stories save as MP4, photo Stories as images.
  • No watermark: You get the Story file itself, not a screen recording with the app's buttons.
  • No login: You don't sign in with your TikTok account to save a public Story.
  • Same quality as the app: The download matches the quality TikTok shows for that Story.
  • Just the sound: Need only the music or voice from a Story? Use the MP3 tool.

Stories have a deadline

A Story is only downloadable while it's live, which means up to 24 hours after it was posted, and less if the creator deletes it early. After that, the link leads nowhere and no downloader can bring it back. That's also why we can't help with Stories that are already gone.

If a creator you follow often posts things you want to keep, it's worth asking them if they save their Stories as regular posts too. Many creators do this with announcements and tutorials.

Where the saved Story goes

On Android, the Story is saved to your Downloads folder and normally shows up in your gallery a moment later. On iPhone, Safari puts it in the Files app under Downloads; open it, tap Share, then Save Video (or Save Image for a photo Story) to move it into Photos. On a computer, check your Downloads folder for a file whose name starts with droptik.app. The iPhone guide walks through moving files from Files to Photos.

It's a good idea to rename the file to something you'll recognise later, like the creator's name and the date, because Story files don't have a caption to remind you what they were.

Stories DropTik can't save

Only public Stories can be downloaded. If an account is private, or the Story is shared only with friends, DropTik can't see it, and that's how it should be. For other errors, see why a TikTok won't save.

If you get an error with a public Story, check that the link is to the Story and not to the creator's profile, and that the Story is still showing in the app. Then try once more. Errors right after posting can happen while TikTok is still processing the Story.

Nothing happening when you tap Download? Check you're in Safari or Chrome rather than the browser inside Instagram or Messenger.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I download a TikTok Story after it expires?

No. Once 24 hours have passed or the creator removes the Story, TikTok stops serving it, so there's nothing to download.

Does the creator know I downloaded their Story?

DropTik doesn't use your TikTok account, so the download itself isn't tied to your profile. But if you watched the Story in the TikTok app while logged in to copy the link, you'll show up in the creator's viewer list like anyone else who watched it.

Where do I find the Story link?

While the Story is playing in the TikTok app, tap Share and choose Copy link. If you don't see a share option, the creator may have limited sharing for that Story.

Can I save the music from a Story?

Yes. Paste the same link into the TikTok to MP3 tool to save just the audio.

Is it OK to repost someone's Story?

Not without asking. Stories are meant to be temporary, so the creator may not want them kept around publicly. Save it for yourself, or ask first.

Can I save several Stories at once?

Yes. Copy each Story's link and paste up to five into the bulk downloader, while they're still live.

Why does a Story link sometimes open a profile instead?

If you copied the link from the profile page rather than from the Story itself, it points to the profile. Open the Story, let it play, then use Share and Copy link.
